2026 Live Risk Management Seminar “The Little Things-Legal Landmines in Disguise”

Attendance at this seminar earns physician policyholders a 10% premium discount and 2 continuing education hours for physicians and other healthcare providers.

The rapid evolution of healthcare delivery and the advancement of technology touted to “make practice easier”—overlayed with the constant pressure to do more with less—has introduced new threats to maintaining a safe, effective, and fulfilling practice. Risk is inevitable. SVMIC understands this reality and is here to help you manage risk and avoid a claim. There’s only one thing better than having a strong insurer that has your back, and that’s avoiding claims altogether. SVMIC invites you to attend one of our dynamic and engaging live seminars “The Little Things-Legal Landmines in Disguise “-led by Dr. Kevin Klauer, a seasoned emergency medicine physician and risk manager with an Executive JD. Drawing on both medical and legal expertise, Dr. Klauer shares strategies from his more than two decades of frontline clinical experience —all with a clean record of no lawsuits.

This seminar takes a different approach with a fully interactive, audience-driven experience. The audience will select from a curated menu of high-risk areas and clinical topics that are often identified in medical malpractice claims. This audience-driven format ensures relevance to current practice realities and engaging interaction. High-quality care alone does not reliably prevent lawsuits. Dr. Klauer explores how excellent clinicians can be blindsided by subtle system issues, cognitive traps, communication missteps, and documentation pitfalls which can quietly escalate risk. Through case discussions and real‑time dialogue, physicians will learn how to spot the high‑risk features in clinical presentations and avoid traps that have derailed others.

Traditional risk management education favors retrospective reviews of what should have been avoided but often fails to provide real world practical solutions that can be incorporated into daily practice.  No one needs to be told, “Don’t misdiagnose that again.”  The implication that the practice of medicine and healthcare delivery is so simple that all diagnoses and situations are similar enough that the nuances of one case can avoid a bad outcome in subsequent cases is not always true. Certainly, following best medicine practices may reduce risk, but it simply isn’t enough. Negligence-free practice is a misnomer and a failed strategy.  Presuming that a reliable and inverse correlation between quality of care and lawsuits exists is a common misconception that has confounded many clinicians and sent many risk managers down the wrong path. Nonetheless, minimizing and even avoiding lawsuits altogether is possible.

With that goal in mind, this seminar focuses on real‑world, forward‑looking techniques that clinicians can hard‑wire into their workflow to reduce risk and build a more defensible practice and avoid claims.

Join us for a dynamic, highly informative seminar that offers not just information—but a new perspective on ways to think, act, and stay protected.
